Volcano House Hotel resumes its restaurant service tonight after months of closure following the Kilauea eruption.
The hotel, located within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, was forced to temporarily close at the same time as the park during the increased seismic activity of the Kilauea eruption. When the park reopened in late September, parts of the hotel reopened as well, but kitchen services could not resume immediately.
However, Volcano House reopened to guests earlier this month and, starting at 5 p.m. tonight, the hotel’s restaurant, The Rim, will resume dinner service.
Starting Friday, The Rim will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at its usual hours, while Uncle George’s Lounge — also within the hotel — will be open for beverages only.
The hotel also expects to reopen Namakanipaio Campground in the first week of December.
Meanwhile, the park reopened Kulanaokuaiki Campground and part of Hilina Pali Road on Oct. 19.
Hikers and bicyclists can use Hilina Pali Road to access Hilina Pali Overlook and nearby trails.
